Making the College Admission Process in regards to You

Highschool me in Any Such Thing Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My name is Jessica Frey (informally referred to as J Frey) and we am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I grew up in Hollister, a tiny farm town in Northern California that has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothing store. I attended a large public senior school with over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to learn theater. My hope is that through sharing my own experiences, I can provide you some advice and help you feel at ease once you approach the school admission process.

Numerous of you visitors are deciding on college it, and I want to make sure you know this is going to be all about you before you know. It might feel a little weird and selfish for anybody who are always placing other’s needs before your very own. But in order you belong and feel happy, you do need to make the college search process all about yourself for you to make an informed college list and end up at a place where.

I do not know I was in high school I made a lot of my decisions based on what other people were doing and thinking about you, but when. It is cool to wear pants that are red? Ok, maybe I will go get that pair I was eyeing at the mall weekend that is last. All the other young ones in my own class are applying to College XYZ? Maybe We should too. My therapist says I’d be good at engineering since I have like my calculus class? We wonder though I have NO IDEA what being an engineer is all about if I should apply to engineering, even. They were all genuine thoughts I’d since well as many others through that anxious and stressful fall semester of senior year.

While it is very simple (and sometimes a good thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process should really be one where you let your very own thoughts and ideas navigate the options. Here are three fundamental principles I do believe every senior high school pupil should retain in mind they are going to apply to college while they decide where:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. Lots of people form opinions about different universites and colleges, but you should really concentrate on your own personal thoughts of this educational schools plus the information you find as you research the colleges that interest you. It’s important that you will be thinking about a university because they provide a thing that you need in your undergraduate experience- not merely because other people you know are fans of the college, or because of its well-known reputation.

Reflect on that which you want in a college experience, and apply to schools consequently. It is now time for you really to be a happy and thriving student for you to think about what a college campus should have in order. Do you want to attend college in a big city or even a college town that is rural? Would you like to study abroad in a particular nation? What kind of activities do you desire to pursue not in the classroom? Do you want to have the opportunity working closely with your professors? If you discover a college you’ve never been aware of but it has anything you’re in search of, include it to the list! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your school or family ever knew about the faculty just before your development. Maybe it’s a place where you will have a college experience that is enjoyable.

Take pleasure in the search process! The process of fabricating your university list can be a daunting task, but it is also an enjoyable experience. This is the opportunity to learn up to you can about the many amazing colleges and universities across the country. This is the time for you to explore the myriad of options and look closely at the colleges you’re considering.

I don’t write this web site to inform you shouldn’t listen to your moms and dads, counselors, or peers. You might have resources that are wonderful your disposal that offer great advice and understanding. Counselors know about a variety of colleges and may manage to tell you more about those that meet your criteria. Your parents will likely be in a position to help determine which schools will be at your fingertips financially. You simply have to make sure their advice also aligns with that which you want in a college experience.

That said, I did buy and totally rocked the red jeans. We’ll acknowledge that I used to a college I had no intention of attending in order to see if I might get in. I did get into the institution, but at the end of the that didn’t matter day. It don’t make me feel better about myself plus it was quite genuinely a waste of the time and money. But used to do follow my heart and became a theater major in place of an engineer, and I’m therefore happy I did. More on that later on.
